CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

Ardfinnan Community Council will hold a Church Gate Collection on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 of February. Your support would be gratefully appreciated. All monies raised by Ardfinnan Community Council are used to provide facilities for the hall and also towards the proposed refurbishment to make your Community Hall work for you.

DEMO AND DINE

Knockmealdown Active would like to invite you to “Demo & Dine” Cookery Demonstration and Tasting Evening on Wednesday, February 29, at 7.30pm in Cahir House Hotel. Hosted by Bord Failte Head Chef JJ Healy, the evening will consist of a series of cookery demonstrations by top local chefs, including: Dermot Gannnon from The Old Convent, Clogheen; Eileen Condon Catering, Newcastle; Noel Coady, The Hermitage, Clogheen; and Peter Greene, Cahir House Hotel. Each chef will prepare a number of courses, using locally-sourced ingredients, with tasting samples for everyone in the audience and recipes available to take home.

PUBLIC MEETING

Deputy Mattie McGrath is holding a public meeting in relation to concerns raised about the future of small schools, this Thursday, February 16, at 8.15pm in Cahir House Hotel. Ms. Breda Fitzgerald, Principal Newtown NS will address the meeting.

KNOCKLOFTY I.C.A.

Knocklofty I.C.A. Guild will resume meetings after the break on Tuesday, February 14, at 8.15pm. New members as always very welcome. A big “Go raibh maith agat” to Nan Hackett, President, for organising a lovely Christmas Party for the members at the December meeting.

OPERATION TRANSFORMATION

The Hi-Viz Ardfinnan Smashers will meet each Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7.30pm outside the Community Hall for our walk. This is free and everyone is welcome and we have had a huge response on our first outing last week so we look forward to seeing you for our “walk and talk”.

ABGN GUN CLUB NOTES

The Gun Club members will host a table quiz in the Glenview Lounge, Goatenbridge, on Friday, February 24. Your support will be much appreciated. Gun Safety - Now that the game shooting season is over don’t forget to give your gun a good cleaning before storing it away safely

Recipe for pancakes from Terry ABGN PRO: 4oz flour, pinch salt, one egg, half pint of milk. Method - Sift the flour and salt together. Add the egg and some milk to make a sticky mixture. Whisk well. Gradually whisk in the remaining liquid and keep in a cool place until ready to use. Always whisk the batter before using it.

ARDFINNAN GAA CLUB

Senior - Adult training for Senior and Junior players will begin tonight at 8pm in the Green. All players are welcome. We play Cahir in the first round of the Adult County League on Sunday, check the fixture list for details.

Under 21 Football - Our Under 21s were down to play last Sunday against Moyle Rovers in the South Championship but this game was postponed due to the poor weather conditions rendering pitches unplayable. No new date was available when going to print, we will update our facebook page when new details are available.

Minor - The minors will train on Friday nights at 8pm on the green. The County league is fixed for next weekend, keep an eye on the fixture lists and our Facebook page for further details.

Under 16s - Our Under 16s will continue to train on Thursday nights at 7pm on the green until further notice.

Under 14s - Our under 14’s continue to train on Monday nights at 6.30pm on the green in preparation for their upcoming championship.

Under 12 Football - Under 12 football training continues next Friday night from 7.30pm to 8.45pm on the green.

Scrap metal Collection - Scrap Saturdays

Our scrap metal collection started last Saturday and will continue for the next two Saturdays, February 18 and 25, from 9.30am to 1pm . If you have any scrap metal we would appreciate if you would drop it to the New field on any of these mornings. The Club has issued a flyer which explains what can and cannot be donated.
