Ardfinnan Tidy Towns
Ardfinnan tidy towns would like to remind everyone that their clean-up week takes place every evening 7pm-9pm from Monday 23 to Friday 27 of April. We would like as many of you as possible to give us a hand for a few hours each evening. Tidy Towns is a small committee and would not refuse anybody that is willing to give us a hand around the community. We will meet each evening at 7pm at the local community centre. We are also doing some work on Saturday 28 from 11am till lunchtime and would like to encourage anybody available to come out and lend a hand. When people think of Tidy towns and helping them out they think about picking up papers - this is not always the case. Tidy towns is not all about litter control any more, it has moved on in the last few years. It is also about landscaping, wildlife and natural amenities, waste minimisation and much more. Anybody that would like to know more can check out the tidy towns web page on www.tidytowns.ie. Once again thanks to everyone that has come out over the last few weeks and we hope we see a few new faces over the next few weeks. Keep up the great work and remember it is your community so why not give a little of your time.

On Saturday 5th May from 10am til 1pm we will be holding an indoor market in the Community Hall, Ardfinnan. The stalls will include anything from homecooking, books, CDs, toys to once loved goods. So don’t forget to come on down for a look and grab yourself a bargain. Tea/Coffee will be available in the hall for purchase so you can sit down and also have a natter with the neighbours and catch up on all the gossip. We look forward to seeing you there.
9th Tipperary Scouting Group - Ardfinnan Beavers, Cubs and Scouts:
Last Sunday 15th April a large number of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts took part in ‘Tus Maith’ which was a sponsored hike. Our hike was expertly led by Scout Leader Shane Griffin. All of the children and adults really enjoyed this hike - we even got a tour of the duck pond! Many thanks to Mark and all the Scouts who looked after the cooking of the sausages for everyone - the hot dogs were demolished quickly. A great day was had by all and of course it was all helped by the fantastic weather we got. Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day. All cards and monies should have been returned to the Leaders by now. If any child still has cards please return them as soon as possible.
On Thursday the Cubs decided to take advantage of the spell of good weather and held their meeting outside. The Cubs were split into groups for their water activities and games and a lot of ‘wet’ but happy children went home that night.
Ardfinnan hosted the Cub County Sports Day which was held on The Green on Sunday 1st April and although we did not retain the shield, we got many medals on the day. Well done to all the Ardfinnan Cubs who participated in this and also congratulations to Fethard who came first on the day. Many thanks to everyone who helped out in organising this event.
The Cubs are currently preparing for their Investiture which will be held in May and the County Cub Camp which will be held in Parsons Green in June. Busy times ahead!!
The Minors were away to Cahir in the County League on Wednesday evening last in what proved to be difficult conditions to play an expansive style of football. Cahir ran out winners on the night. In the South Championship we played St Patricks in Marlfield on Sunday - we played very well on the day and won on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-4.
Our Under 14s had their second win in succession in the South Championship when we had a hard fought win away to Mullinahone on Monday evening 16th April. This game swung both ways and the result was in doubt until the last five minutes of the game when we raised the green flag and tacked on a couple of points to put the match beyond our opponents.
The Under 12 A team beat Carrick Swans 2-7 to 1-1 on Friday night. We have now finished the group stage of this competition and have qualified for the Semi Finals. The Under 12 B team will play Newcastle next, this team have played some really good football to date improving with every game and we can see how all the work which is being put in at Juvenile level is paying off.
The Under 8 player of the week is John Butler and the Under 6 Player of the week is Casey Salmon. Well done lads and keep up the good work.
