It is with deep regret that we accord the death at an early age of Mrs Catherine Neale which occurred at her residence Kilgorey, Crettyard, Co Carlow on April 18 last. Catherine was daughter of Teddy and Kathleen O’Keeffe, Burgesland, Newcastle. She was a loving wife to her husband Thomas and devoted mother to her young children Mason and Theo who are left behind to mourn the loss of a young woman. Catherine’s funeral was to Mount Jerome Crematorium on Friday last. To her parents Teddy and Kathleen, siblings Christine, Roisin and Edmond, her husband Thomas, children, and all the Neale and O’Keeffe families we extend our very sincere sympathy.
The O Keeffe family, Burgesland, and the Neale family, Carlow, would like to thank the community of Newcastle for their overwhelming kindness, support and attendance at the funeral of their daughter and sister, the late Catherine (Kate) Neale (nee O Keeffe) in Carlow last week.

Newcastle Tidy Towns
Our annual spring clean will take place on Saturday, April 28 starting at 10.30 p.m. Anyone, young and old who have a few hours to spare and who want to help keep Newcastle clean and beautiful are asked to meet at the community hall where gloves and bags etc. will be available . This clean-up has been a great success in recent years and we want to make sure this year will be even better. Refreshments will be supplied to children on completion
We also hope volunteers will come forward for litter picking/clean ups which we will be holding two evenings weekly starting on Monday May 8. We will meet in the car park at 7 p.m.
This Thursday evening we will be holding a Training and Demonstration evening at the new composting site which is currently being completed by our FAS workers under supervision of Michael Desmond and a Consultant from the E.P.A. This is an exciting project and the site will be used to demonstrate and educate the public on the value of composting/recycling and the ease at which different methods of recycling can be carried out. This project has been planned for some time and we had secured some funding from the Agenda 21 programme. We are very grateful to Liam and Helen McGrath, who made the site available to us. Following advice from the E.P.A. consultant we are now involved in a bigger project than was first envisaged and our costs are now also much greater. We are hoping that some people might be interested in sponsoring a piece of recycling/composting equipment which would help defray some of the costs. If interested in such sponsorship or would like to help in any way please call Catherine on 0879817091. Details of start time for Thursday’s events will be posted in shops. Please do come along.
