The Community Council’s annual festival is fast approaching in Burncourt. It promises to be action packed beginning on Friday, July 13, with a table quiz in Butler’s Bar for the Denny Lonergan Perpetual Trophy. The table quiz will begin at 9pm sharp with tables of four for €20.

An event which proved very popular last year and off we go again on the Car Treasure Hunt on Saturday, July 14, with a 2.30pm start.

Sunday, July 15, will see the history and cultural buffs out and about with a tour of some of Burncourt’s Historical sites led by Rose Cleary, starting at 3pm.

Not just for the seasoned card players but for all who would like to try their skill with a €10 “45” Card Game in the Community Hall on Tuesday, July 17.

It’s challenge time on Friday, July 20, when contestants in the “Battle of the Parish” will be asked to step up and take on some interesting if not gruesome trials in their quest to win the title. “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here” will take place in Burncourt Community Hall.

Burncourt Celtic will run a tournament from Monday, July 16, with a final on July 21, a date which also sees another round of the Battle of the Parish with a Fancy Dress Parade on that Saturday night.

Sunday, July 22, is the Gala Day with the emphasis on a family day out.


A worthwhile idea being put forward by Macra na Feirme presently is their “Know Your Neighbour” campaign. The annual festival in Burncourt is a very viable way of participating in this project as for example working on a Fancy Dress Parade can bring all age groups together as each area plans, sources and stages their project for the “Battle of the Parish”


The local Meals on Wheels service has ended for the summer and will resume in September. A huge thank you to all the local volunteers for their time and commitment in keeping this very valuable service in operation.


Art Classes continue in Burncourt Community Hall and are suitable for all levels. If you are interested just come along on Thursday night at 8pm.


Burncourt National School Parents’ Association to date have raised €5,000 toward the completion of the recent school extension. During the Gala Day, on July 22, the school will be open to all who want to see the new extension.


As part of Burncourt Community Council’s Festival Programme there will be an Art Competition for the children of Burncourt National School. Pictures can be submitted under the following topics - My Favourite Place, My Favourite Toy or My Favourite Pet. The age categories are as follows - U7, U10, and U13.
