HISTORIC GRAVES

In the past year the ‘Historic Graves Project’ has helped local community groups survey 6734 graves in 79 graveyards, recording not only the names, locations and inscriptions on those headstones, but also recording local stories from local people about their local cemeteries. The Knockmealdown Active steering committee hopes to train local volunteers on how to record the information contained within their local historic graveyards. If there is enough interest from local communities, Knockmealdown Active hopes to be in a position to organise the basic professional training necessary to conduct the survey, and to supply cameras and other specialised recording equipment. If you think you might be interested in this very worthwhile and rewarding exercise please send a text message with your name, contact details and parish area to 086-8119571 and we will contact you as soon as possible. If you want more information about the project, check out historicgraves.ie on the internet.
