Cahir Library’s Knit n’ Natter Club are running a bus again this year to the Craft Fair in Dublin. The bus leaves the library at 8am on November 2 and the cost is €25. Places are available and can be booked at the library during the new opening times or by phoning Ann at 0527442075.

Library Hours

New opening times for Cahir Library are Monday 2pm to 5pm and 6.30pm to 8pm; Tuesday 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm; Thursday 1.30pm to 5pm; Friday 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm; Saturday 10am to 1pm.

Now that the evenings are starting to fade maybe it’s time to check out membership of the library. Fees are adults €7, senior citizens, students and social welfare recipients €1.50 and children are free. Internet use is also available.

The reading tree was a big success again this year with over 600 books read by participating members. Medal presentation yet to be arranged.

Culture Night

Free events are planned all over the country on Friday, September 21 - Culture Night.

At the Craft Granary they will have a pottery demonstration from Jim from Kilcooley pottery. They are also hoping to have a candle making demonstration and a workshop for children. The event will run from 6pm to 9pm with the childrens’ workshop running from 6pm to 7pm. Soft drinks and nibbles will also be provided.

From Friday, September 14, the Craft Granary have in the Gallery a collection of ceramics from the Southeast region.

Active Retirement Association

The monthly meeting held on Wednesday, September 5, was well attended, members enjoying the beautiful weather. The guest speaker was Chris Richards and his theme was ‘Exercises for Older People.’ A useful hand out with information and a demonstration rounded off the talk finally ending with a lively question and answer session. May we thank Chris for an interesting and practical talk.

The results of “25” Card Game held at the McAuley Room on Friday, September 7. 1st with 14 Games, Lexie Sheehan, Teddy Dillon. 2nd with 10 Games, John Whelan, Mary Moloney. David White, Willie O’Neill. Tim Fitzgerald Maurice Condon. Lucky Table, Teresa Duggan, Ann Lonergan… Bridget Fanning, Mary Fitzgerald. Raffle, David White, Kathleen English.

They are now taking bookings for the autumn holiday to Torremolinos, Costa de Sol, Spain on October 17.

Thank You - Fundraiser Dance

The fundraiser dance in aid of Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin, was held last Tuesday, September 4, in Cahir House Hotel. A big thanks to special guests on the night Pride of Tipperary 2012 Aoife O’Meara and M.C. Owen Lonergan from Tipp F.M. €6514.68 was raised. Thanks to Ryan Turner for an excellent job on the night backing all the artists. Thanks also to the management and staff of Cahir House, ticket sellers, spot prize donors and last but not least the artists themselves without whom the show could not go on. Sincere gratitude to everyone for coming and supporting this fantastic and very worthy fundraiser.

Duhill Fundraising Gala Day

All roads lead to Castlegrace this Sunday, September 16, for the Fundraising Gala Day. The Day will commence with a cake sale in Duhill Hall after 9.30am mass.

The Fun Cycle 10K will commence at midday, registration from 11.30am. Clogheen via Bohernagore and back to field. Helmets compulsory! Events begin in the field at 1.30pm. Kids blitzes, mothers vs daughters matches, Dog Show, Donkey Derby, Obstacle Course, Tug a-war. Balloon release and various side shows

Photographic competition again this year and entries to Maggie Moloney, Secretary, Castlegrace, 0863846839 or given to P.J. & Mgt English, Fruit and Veg Shop, Clogheen or Marie Burke The Shop, Ballylooby Village with names and contact no on the back of each picture.

All those wishing to volunteer for this event, come along to the next meeting on Wednesday, September 12, at 8.30pm in Duhill Hall.

Cahir Community Lotto

There was no jackpot winner of the draw that took place on Wednesday, September 5. There was one Match 3 winner who takes home €200 and that was Gerard Halley, Newtownadam, Cahir. The numbers drawn were 8, 20, 22 and 30. The draw was witnessed by Lena Phelan. The next draw will take place on Wednesday, September 12, at 12 noon in Cahir Day Care Centre. The jackpot will then be €2,200! Tickets are available in local shops and also at the Enterprise Centre.
