Cahir defeated Aherlow by 2 points on Saturday evening after a titanic battle to capture their first Intermediate county title, on a score line of 1-10 to 1-08.

Having lost the previous two finals this group of girls were determined not to let this opportunity slip. As the score line would suggest this game went down to the wire.

This was a game of two halves with Aherlow taking control of the first and would go in at half time with a 5 point lead on a scoreline of 1-6 to 4 points. It could have been so different if Cahir had not spurned 2 gilt edge goal opportunities.

Cahir started the second half brightly and would soon register 2 points to close the gap to 3 points. Cahir were now in total control with all the play in the Aherlow half of the pitch but could not turn the possession into scores and with 10 minutes left the gap remained at 3 points.

Then a goal by L Barrett had the teams level. Cahir would then register 2 more points and as the game entered injury time Cahir led for the first time. It was tense last few minutes with both sides having chances, but credit most go to the girls who held their nerve and held on for a famous victory.

Cahir now go onto the Munster championship where they will play Kenmare on Saturday, October 6. Congratulations to all the girls and the management team on a famous victory.
