Our weekend of celebrations took place on Saturday and Sunday, June 30 and July 1. The official opening of the school, performed by Sr. Patricia Wall and blessed by Fr. Derry Quirke PP, took place on Saturday at 2pm with entertainment and refreshments. That night there was a very well-attended ceili in our marquee which was specially erected for the occasion. On Sunday we had a Vintage Car, Tractor and Bike Show. There was also a Tractor Run of about 12 miles in the Slieveardagh Hills, and later the vintage cars went for a spin around, which included a call to the Famine Warhouse, which overlooks The Commons. There was a huge turnout of past pupils, and present day pupils with their parents, teachers, friends, relations, and well-wishers on both days. Overall a very enjoyable couple of days. Well done to the organising committee.

The walk commemorates all those who died during the Great Famine and the 1848 Rising which took place in Ballingarry in the middle of the Famine. The rebel leaders were transported to Van Diemen’s Land. The walk will begin at the National Flag monument in The Commons and proceed to the Famine Warhouse. The distance of 1 ½ miles will be covered at an easy pace and all are welcome to participate in this informal event or to gather at the house. We would like to thank the Ballingarry Flower Club for their very generous donation from the dissolvement of their Club. Their kindness and generosity was very much appreciated.

We would like to ask all community members to be very vigilant in the coming days as it is nearing the time of judging in the competition. Please, if anybody has any available time do not hesitate to weed the flowerbeds, water flowers (if the sun appears at any stage). If you are out walking and see rubbish, please do not hesitate to pick it up, even though you may not have dropped it. If you are walking your dog, please clean up after it. Every little helps and will benefit the appearance of Ballingarry. Sincere thanks to all Community Members who have made great efforts and dedicated their time to improving the appearance of Ballingarry. The progress to date would not have been possible without the support of Ballingarry Community Members.
