LADIES INTERMEDIATE COUNTY FINAL

Bansha was the venue for the County Tipperary ladies Intermediate football final on Saturday evening. Cahir secured automatic entry to the final having earned top spot on the championship board so it would be fair to say Cahir were favourites. Aherlow playes Moycarkey only a week previous in the semifinal where it took two attempts to put Moycarkey away as the first game ended in a draw.

From the start Cahir put Aherlow under a lot of pressure but brilliant goalkeeping from Louise Grogan and great defending by all the Aherlow backs kept the Cahir score to a minimum in the first half. A goal form Edel Hanly and points from Claire Mullins and Eleanor Ryan put Aherlow in a very good position at half time with a score of 1-6 to Cahir’s 0-4. From the start of the second half Cahir piled on the pressure on the Aherlow defence and gradually got back into the game. However Cahir eventually got a goal which set them up for victory. Aherlow had some brilliant individual performances form Brid and Maire Condon and Grainne Wade in defence Soibhan Condon and Blathinid Waters at midfield and Claire Mullins, Anne Marie Fahey, Libby Grogan and Edel Hanly in attack. Louise Grogan was awarded the overall player of the game for her out standing performance that no doubt kept Aherlow in a strong position for much of the game.

Final score Aherlow 1-8 Cahir 1-10. The Aherlow team would like to wish Cahir Ladies all the best in the Munster Championship.
