Michael Scully from Clonmel recently represented Ireland in the World Long Distance Triathlon Championships in Belfort, France.

A past pupil of St. Mary’s N.S. and the High School, Michael (son of Marian and Danny Scully, Glenleigh Court) is a member of Carrick Triathlon Club.

Despite adverse weather, which caused the swim to be cancelled and replaced with a 10km run, prior to the 90km cycle and 20km run, Michael was first of the Irish competitors to finish and was placed 12th in his age group (29-34).

He finished in 106th place in a field of over 1,000 competitors - a result he credits to a lot of wet Sunday mornings spent in the Comeraghs.

He has competed in triathlons all over Ireland in the last four years, recently finishing in 4th place overall in the Galway Triathlon.

He also competed in the Dublin City Marathon last October, an event he plans to return to this year.

For his next challenge he is off to Switzerland at the end of July to compete in the Zurich Ironman event.
