BALLYBACON COMMUNITY ALERT
The annual general meeting of Ballybacon Community Alert took place on Wednesday, March 7, in the GAA Hall Goatenbridge. The following Officers were elected at the AGM: Chairman: Eddie Mason, Secretary: Rosaline O’Leary. Treasurer: Josephine Mason. Committee Members: Martin Lonergan, Free Burke, Margaret O’Leary and Tommy Mason. Also present at the meeting were Garda Kieran Donovan, National Co-ordinator of the Community Alert Programme for Muintir na Tire, Liam Kelly, Community Alert Development Officer for the South Eastern Region, Margaret Quinn and on behalf of TASK Community Care, Peter Butler. Apologies had been received from Margaret O’Neill who is our local Community visitor and Helen Mason.
The Committee expressed disappointment at the lack of attendance at the AGM despite the fact that it had been well advertised and in particular that rural crime in the local areas had been on the increase in recent months. A very insightful discussion took place on measures towards home security for the elderly and vulnerable with inputs from Garda Donovan, Margaret Quinn and Liam Kelly. Peter Butler of TASK gave an informative rundown of various security devices available from his company and in particular the devices available under the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government Seniors Alert Scheme. Anyone in the Community that has an interest in applying under the Seniors Alert Scheme should contact Martin Lonergan on 087 6497083 or Eddie Mason on 052 7466193 for further information.
Please take note that anyone/community organisation etc. who would like to have notes included in the Goatenbridge section are asked to send them via e-mail to email@example.com / phone 087 6497083 on or before 4pm on the SUNDAY prior to publication!
