West Champions Congratulations to the Golden/Kilfeacle Junior A Hurling team who were crowned West Champions on Sunday in Dundrum when they defeated Cashel King Cormacs. Senior Citizens Party The annual party will be held in Golden Community Centre on Sunday, November 10, beginning with mass in the hall at 1pm. Golden Golf Society The third outing of 2013 saw 31 golfers brave the elements in Cahir Park Golf Club in the Golden Inn (Toohey’s) outing on Saturday, November 2. Team Michael Hayes won the day in a Champagne Scramble with some tasty shot making from his team mates John Hayes and Richie O’Keeffe. Second place went to the Fogartys of Mantlehill - Michael Snr, Michael Jnr, Jack and Adrian Lyons (in law). Martin Kane won long drive and Ben Blackford won nearest the pin. The AGM will be held in early 2014 . Golden/Kilfeacle Drama Society Golden/Kilfeacle drama society are rehearsing for their upcoming production of John B Keane’s ‘The Chastitute’ to be staged in Golden Community Hall on Saturday, November 30, and Sunday, December 1. Congratulations to our U14 Hurlers who won an All Ireland u14 hurling blitz run by Carlow Town Hurling club on Saturday, October 26. They played Butlerstown from Waterford in their first game and won 3-6 to 1-4. The next game was against Ballygarvan form Cork and like all Tipp Cork clashes it was a close affair but in the second half they took control of the game and won 2-8 to 1-4 this set them up to win their last game v O’Dwyer’s from Dublin and they would be division B champions. This game was played in a downpour but they ran out eventual winners 6-8 to no score. Credit to coach Kieran Maguire, selectors Carmel Hanrahan, Walter Power. Michael Hogan Community Sportsfield Buy a Square - Work in the sportsfield is almost complete, the final part of the development is the laying of the ‘carpet’ for the all weather pitch. To help achieve this, we are giving people the opportunity to Buy a Square in the Michael Hogan Community Sportsfield for €20 each. Volunteers will be calling to the houses in the parish in the coming weeks to sell squares. Ladies Soccer The Senior Team lost to College Corinthians of Cork by 4-1 in the Munster Senior Cup Semi final at home. Killenaule Moyglass were in control of the game in the first but went in 2-1 down at half time, our goal scored straight from a corner by Jane Anne McEvitt. We continued to dominate for 30min of the second half to no avail. The Cork team took over totally for the last 15min and only for Hannah Stapleton in goal playing magnificent the scoreline could have been worse. The senior team played 16 competitive games this season, won 14, lost 2. Scored 53 goals, conceded 12. Won the Tipperary League and Cup Final, well done on another remarkable season. The U14 team drew 1-1 on Sunday with Kilbehenny and once again had to rely on U12 players, a great result on the day. The U10 team had a great game with Cahir on Saturday morning another exciting game. Soccer training every Saturday from 6pm to 7pm for girls seven to 16 years of age. Congratulations to Alice Ryan on winning the Kelloggs Cúl Camp U12 football skills competition in Thurles on October 30. The u10s travelled to Ardfinnan on Saturday, October 26, to take part in a football blitz. Newcastle qualified for the final, but Cahir were victorious.

Halloween Fancy Dress Parade Veronica Troy, Bonnie’s Bouquets Lismore, would like to thank everybody who supported the 10th Halloween Fancy Dress Parade in Lismore Castle on bank holiday Monday. The attendance was the highest yet and there were many fabulous costumes on display. Veronica thanks Lord and Lady Burlington for the use of the Castle premises and Scallywags for the help and support.

It was with great sadness that we learnt of the recent death of Joe Byrne, Modeligo. We extend our deepest sympathy to Ann and family, to his grandchildren, extended family, neighbours and many friends. Joe will be sadly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Following requiem mass in Affane, Joe was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.
