Ballymacarbry Ladies Football Club
On Sunday, November 3, Ballymacarbry Minors faced Ballysaggart in the Minor D County Final. This was a thrilling and thoroughly enjoyable game throughout with 10 goals in total scored between the two teams. Ballymacarbry had a narrow lead of 2 points at the half time break. The midfield partnership of Lauren Guiry and Laura Mulcahy really drove the team on in the second half cutting through the Ballysaggart defence time and time again and at one stage Ballymacarbry held a 13 point lead. The Ballysaggart girls never gave up and cut that lead to 6 points and prove for a very exciting finish. Ballymacarbry held on and won 5-10 to 5-4. There were many outstanding performances on the day from the team, one being from Maeve Ryan who dominated the left wing all day and set up numerous attacks. From Kayleigh Tobin who was solid in goals and delivered great kick outs to Sinéad O’Meara, Becky Hogan, Méabh Kennedy and Muireann Boyce every girl played superbly and made for a strong defence that was needed to stop the dangerous Ballysaggart forwards. The midfield partnership of Lauren Guiry and Laura Mulchay were outstanding and ran all day contributing greatly to the scoreboard with a goal each among other scores. In the forward sector Kelly McGrath played a captains role and led the team by example scoring 2 crucial goals. Beckie Desmond was always dangerous and scored a great goal when the teams were very close to keep the Ballymacarbry girls in contention, Chloe Desmond, Clodagh Kelly, Becky Maunsell, Jade Condon –O’Grady and Cliona Murphy all played brilliantly to secure the win for their team. The introduction of Mairéad Boyce at halftime was a huge boost and she made a great contribution in the second half. Missing on the day was Shauna Hewitt.
