CBS PRIMARY HURLERS WIN lST EVER A GRADE HURLING TITLE
Mitchelstown CBS Primary School hurlers won their first ever A grade title at Mallow on Wednesday. CBS face Newtownshandrum who had won this title on eight occasions. It was a keenly contested game with Newtown holding a slight lead for long periods helped by an early goal. At half time Newtown led 1-5 to 0- 5. CBS with an outstanding display by Cathal O’Mahony in the second half ran out victors by 1-12 to 1-8. Scorers Cathal O’Mahony 1-9, Aaron O’Brien 0-1, Darragh Flynn 0-1.
In the 9 aside final Ballygiblin NS faced Milford NS. After a very close game Milford emerged victorious by 1- 9 to 0- 6. Milford had their goal midway through the second half that helped them win by 1- 9 to 0- 6 in the end.
Ballindangan NS won the 7 aside Golden Vale Cup when they beat Shanballymore in the opening game at Mallow on Wednesday. The final score was 1-11 to 2- 4.
Ballygiblin Premier Junior hurlers are due to meet Castletownroche in the knockout stages of the North Cork championship this Saturday June 23 in Kilworth 7.30pm. On Monday June 25 Mitchelstown meet Carrignavar in
Cavanagh’s Fermoy Avondhu-Imokilly Div 1 FL semi final in Ballyhooly 7.30pm
On Tuesday June 26 Mitchelstown and Kildorrery clash in the JBFC(2) quarter final at Glanworth. Ballygiblin have two outstanding games in the Avondhu-Imokilly Div 1 HL. Both games are away to Midleton and Sarsfields.
THE LATE PADDY O’DONOGHUE
The death occurred on June 1, at his residence 16 Mandeville Park, Mitchelstown, of Paddy O’Donoghue. The late Paddy was very well known locally. His popularity was borne out in the large attendance at the removal on Wednesday evening from O’Brien’s Funeral Home to the Parish Church and also at the Requiem Mass and burial on Thursday. Interment took place to the adjoining cemetery. To his wife Mary (Nee Fitzgerald) sons Sean, William, daughters Myra (Fitzgibbon) Deirdre (Fitzgerald) sisters Alice, Marie, Nuala sons in law Tomas, Tony, daughter in law Brigid, grandchildren Ciaran, Scott, Sean, Paul and Amy brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives neighbours and friends we tender our sincere sympathy.
Mitchelstown Branch P.T.A.A. will hold their annual Mass and presentation of Gold and Silver pins at the Town Hall Mitchelstown on Friday, June 29, at 7.30pm
Fr Cullen Medal along with presentations to members who have 40, 60 and 70 years as members of the P.T.A.A. will also be made. If you feel you qualify for one of these presentations ensure your name is given to P.T.A.A. Council members immediately.
