On behalf of the Skeheenarinky community, condolences are extended to the Sweeney family on the recent passing of Maureen Sweeney of Glenacunna, Ballyporeen. Maureen was a popular lady and will be sadly missed by family and friends. May she rest in peace.

For a change, your humble scribe was on the receiving end of Get Well wishes this week and spent a few days being looked after in South Tipp General. I was told when I came home that I had missed summer! Thanks for the calls and texts.

Ballyporeen I.C.A. is 50 years in existence this year and members will hold a number of events throughout the year to celebrate this great achievement. The first event will be with Eamon Dwyer of Tipp FM when I.C.A. members and friends will join with him in recording a session for his weekly programme – “Down Your Way”. The recording will take place in O’Casey’s Lounge, Ballyporeen, on Thursday, June 13, at 7pm. and everyone is very welcome to come along.

Preliminary notice that the National School Gala Weekend will take place from June 21 to 23. A card game will take place on Friday 21 at the school at 8pm. On Saturday, June 22, Karol and Ed will host a Coffee Morning at Galty Cottage. All proceeds to the school. The Gala Day takes place on Sunday 23rd. Please make a special effort this year to support the ‘gala weekend’ as the cutting of grants by the government has made fundraising a necessity for all small schools.
