GALTEE ROVERS ST PECAUN’S LADIES FOOTBALL
It’s a busy season for all involved in Galtee Rovers St Pecaun’s Ladies Football Club. Our Junior Team were so unlucky not to bring glory back to Bansha last Sunday evening when they contested the Junior B County League final. This match took place in Moyle Rovers pitch and they faced their old rivals Gortnahoe in this competitive final. The Galtee Girls had beaten this team in last year’s championship final.
Alison Lonergan opened the scoring for the Galtees with a fine point from 30m out. Gortnahoe were then quick to reply with a point. Sharon O’Brien hit the net with a cracker of a goal which was followed by a few scores from the Gortnahoe women. The score was then stretched by the Galtees with a few class points from Aoife O’Brien and Rosin Finnane. And then Claire Carroll took a second goal for the Galtees. The score at half time read Galtee Rovers 2-3 Gortnahoe 1 -6 with all to play for.
Again our women did not disappoint and the second half showed some great scores from Claire Carroll 3 points and another from Roisin Finnane. However, the Gortnohoe players showed pure determination and hit the net twice. The final score read Galtee Rovers St Pecaun 2 -7 Gortnahoe 3 – 6.
Well done to all players and the management team of Noel O’Brien, Jimmy Butler, Lar Roche and Louise Murphy. It was great to see the younger players coming through to this level along with the more experienced colleuges. This team have spirit skills and determination and we look forward to seeing plenty more from them in the this year’s championship.
