Cashel Town Schoolboys revealed plans for two exciting ventures this week - they are running a Summer Soccer League for aspiring schoolboy and schoolgirl players, and also declared their intentions to bring young players and supporters to the Theatre of Dreams in Manchester for a Premiership game later this year.
The Summer Leagues are normally run every two years, but last year was such a success that it was decided to break with tradition and run one again this year. The plan is to kick off in the second or third week of June and run until the end of the month. Up to 150 young players between the ages of 6 and 12 played last year, and the club hopes that even greater numbers will take part this time.
It is also hoped that if enough schoolgirls enter a separate competition will be held for both boys and girls. The league last year was the springboard for the successful arrival of Cashel Town Schoolgirls into the South Tipperary league, and having a separate competition for girls will only enhance the club and get new players involved. For information about registering contact any of the coaches or committee members of either the schoolboys or schoolgirls teams. Details will also be available on the club’s Facebook sites.
The other exciting venture being undertaken by the club is the planned trip to Old Trafford to take in a Premiership football game with champions Manchester United. This trip should cost around E100 including travel and match ticket. It is a wonderful opportunity to see some of the top players in the world game in the flesh. Places on the trip will be limited, and those interested must book a place by Sunday, June 9, at the absolute latest. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so if you want to get a seat on the bus, contact Michael 0872437752 or any of the schoolboy coaches. The places are limited to players or supporters from the U12 to U15 teams, but there will also be some adult places available for people who volunteer to supervise the trip.
