THE GATHERING IN BALLYGIBLIN
The Gathering in Ballygiblin will take place on Friday, June 21, and Saturday June 22. Inviting all past pupils, band and dance troupes, past and present GAA members family and friends. There will be special celebrations for the Ballygiblin hurling teams of 1963 and 1993. On Friday Mass will be celebrated in the school by past pupil priests at 8pm, followed by blessing and official opening of the new extension. On Saturday there will be novelty matches in the pitch from 2pm. The old school will be open with exhibition of old photos and memorabilia. There will be a Variety Concert in the Firgrove Hotel that Saturday night with local acts and Comhaltas followed by a social with Oliver and Tony. Adm E10.
FESTIVAL OF THE GALTEES
The 38th annual Festival of the Galtees was held in Mitchelstown over the June weekend. Weather conditions were excellent all through with large crowds attending the events.
KILDORRERY HURLERS WIN
Kildorrery Intermediate hurlers in their first year in Intermediate grade had a close win over Milford on Sunday in the Co championship. They had their goal just before half time that gave them an interval lead 1-9 to 0- 10. During the second half Kildorrery held a slight lead all through and emerged winners 1-20 to 1-18.
There will be an information night for parents of incoming pupils to Mitchelstown Primary School at the School Hall on Thursday, June 6, at 8pm.
Kilbehenny Cycling club will host a fundraising cycle this Sunday, June 9, with proceeds to the newly refurbished Community Hall. There will be three cycles - 80km ‘Tour of the Galtees’, 50km cycle and 15km for family fun cyclists. Entry for the 80 and 50 is E20 for over 16 and E10 for under 16. 15km: adult E10, E15 family.
THE LATE PEG HOWARD
The death occurred peacefully on May 28 at St Patrick’s Church, Fermoy, of Margaret (Peg) Howard, Clonkilla Mitchelstown. The late Peg (nee O’Flaherty) was a member of a well known family in the area. She was pre-deceased by her husband Matt. There was a large attendance at the removal on Wednesday evening from O’Brien’s Funeral Home, Mitchelstown, to Kilacluig Church and also at the Requiem Mass and burial on Thursday. Interment took place to Mitchelstown Church Cemetery. To her daughters Mary (Casey) and Eileen, son in law Donie, sister in law Eliza O’Flaherty, relatives and friends we tender our sincere sympathy.
GALTEE GAELS THROUGH TO LEAGUE FINAL
Galtee Gaels Junior footballers had a 3-8 to 1- 8 win over Castletown-Ballyagran last week end. The will now play Camogue Rovers in the final.
