Lagganstown School Reunion
The dust has now settled on what was a brilliant weekend in the parish of New Inn for the Lagganstown school reunion. The little two roomed country school which finally closed its doors in 1971 was fondly remembered by the many past pupils who returned from far and wide to share their memories with all their former classmates. The reunion preparations began almost a year ago when the committee of past pupils, Breda Kirwan, Nora Mae Kennedy, Jimmy O’Farrell, Richie Loughnane, Kevin Moore, Paddy O’Connor, Tommy O’Donnell and Sr. Pius Murphy came together and the reunion was organised. It was a brilliant idea. On the Saturday, mass was celebrated in the church by past pupil Arch-deacon Mattie McGrath. It was followed by a huge get-together in the hall.
On Sunday everyone met for the last time at the old school, where photos were taken, stories were told, a grand time was had and everyone parted, after the “once in a life time” event which everyone enjoyed so much.
Saturday, August 24, is the annual outing. This year it’s to the south coast including Mellary, Lismore, Dungarvan, Waterford and Dunmore East (to tie in with the “Dunmore East Bluegrass Festival”). €20 deposit to be paid by August 17. Anyone interested in going, please contact Mary Frances asap 0527462252.
