SPORTS & LEISURE COMPLEX

SPORTS & LEISURE COMPLEX

There was a reasonable attendance a the first public meeting of the proposed new Mitchelstown Sports Complex at the Firgrove Hotel on Thursday night. Members of the Whitechurch Sports Complex were in attendance to outline their splendid facilities that were built in recent years. No final decision was taken on the massive project that involves the purchase of 34 acres at Stagpark Mitchelstown on the Ballindangan Road. Representatives from the local CBS and Presentation Convention Secondary Schools expressed their disappointment at the proposed move

from the adjacent Canon’s Field to this new site outside of town. Overall, there was a general feeling amongst the gathering that the new project was viable and it is expected that the cost of E3.3 million will be self sufficient from money saved, grants and land to be resold. There will be another public meeting in the coming weeks where it is hoped that a far bigger attendance will be present and that all clubs in the parish will also be represented.
