Well-known publican Mick passes away

Prominent businessman Michael (Mick) Carey died last Thursday at his home in Irishtown, Clonmel.

Prominent businessman Michael (Mick) Carey died last Thursday at his home in Irishtown, Clonmel.

Originally from Rearcross in North Tipperary, he was synonymous with his lounge/bar Carey’s, which he developed into one of the finest in Clonmel over the years.

A popular and respected figure in his adopted town, Mick was pre-deceased many years ago by his wife Anna-Mai.

He is survived by his daughters Mary (Power) and Siobhan (Harney); sons P.J., Michael and Noel; sons-in-law Dermot Power and John Harney; daughters-in-law Michelle and Evelyn; grandchildren, great-grandchild, brother P.J., sister Maggie (O’Toole), sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

The huge turnout at the funeral ceremonies was a testament to the popularity of both Mick and his family.

The removal took place from O’Donoghue’s Funeral Home on Sunday evening to St. Mary’s Church in Irishtown.

Requiem Mass was celebrated at midday on Monday, followed by burial in St. Patrick’s cemetery.
