It is with sadness this week that we report the death of a well known and popular gentleman in Ballyporeen. On Wednesday night, May 9, John Sheehy passed away peacefully in St. Teresa’s Hospital, Clogheen, in the company of his loving family after a short illness. John was born and reared in Moher, Ballyporeen, and could only be described as a quiet gentle man who’s passion in life was farming. He was an active man right up to recently and kept in touch with what was going on around. John was the one of a family of seven he was the second eldest of two girls and seven boys. John married Nell and they had one son J.J. John was proud to see J,J, work on the farm and take over where he left off. I’m sure this was a great comfort to John. Removal took place on Friday night from John’s home in Moher to the church of the Assumption Ballyporeen. Requim mass for John was celebrated on Sunday, by Fr Joe Flynn, and a friend of John’s, Fr Walsh, Also present was Fr.Fitzgerald, from Mitchelstown, the crowds that turned up for John’s rosary, removal and final farewell bore testimony to his popularity. John was laid to rest in St. Mary’s cemetary, may he rest in peace. We would like to take this opportunity to offer our deepest and heartfelt sympathies to his loving wife Nell, his son J.J, his brothers Tim. Seamus and Maurice, his sister Nora, his sisters in law, nieces and nephews and all his relatives and neighbours and the huge circle of friends that knew John. He will be a great loss to our village and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
We would like to remind all parents and children of Scoil Tempeall Toinne that our sponsored walk will take place on this Sunday, May 20. The walk will start in Glengarra Woods and promises to be very enjoyable. The children currently have sponsor cards and we would appreciate if you could return them when full to the school. There are prizes for all cards that are filled and there are goodies for all children that take part in the walk. This walk is to subsidise school tours and our swimming that is currently taking place. We are looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday.
