It was a busy week on the playing field with our u16 footballers bowing out of the championship after a great struggle with Cahir. On a wet evening we had plenty of chances especially in the first half but our failure to score in the second half left us trailing at the finish. Training will now turn to hurling. Best on the night were J Carey, E McCormack, D Fogarty, L Trimble and L Ryan. Many of these players helped us qualify for the minor final when we defeated Ardfinnan in the semi final. Best for the minors were J Feehan, G Henry, A O Connell and man of the match N Murphy. Our junior hurlers had a busy week when they recorded two victories. These lads are preparing well and the hurling championship is just around the corner. Best for the juniors were P O Connor, A Dorney, J Berry, S Hannigan, K Prendergast, A Walsh and P Dwyer.

Club Outing

We had a great weekend away in Ballyheigue where we played a few matches in the local hurling tournament. In the semi final we defeated a very strong Causeway team after a great match. Although understrength we put in a great effort and came from 5 points down in the last 10 minutes to win by a point. Unfortunately for the final many of our players were struck down with a tummy bug which took a big effect in the later stages of the final. Although defeated we took our beating well and didn’t let it spoil our weekend. We would like to thank the host club and Jimmy Browne of the White Sands Hotel for their hospitality. We would like to thank especially the junior players who came along to play their part. Best in Kerry were A Walsh, T Doyle, J Dwyer, P Kennedy, Festy, G Kennedy, D Fanning and Paul Dwyer who Incidentally played five matches in five days.

Junior Football

We begin our campaign this Wednesday against Mullinahone and will be out next Wednesday as well.

Best of Luck

To the Gorman family’s on the recent death of their brother Andy.

The league resumed again this weekend with an away game to unbeaten Cahir. Shauna Hayes got us off to a great start with a well taken goal after 5 mins. But Cahir replied within 5 mins from a corner to leave it 2-1 at half time.

In the second half Cahir had the wind and put a lot of pressure on Killenaule with Erin Slattery holding strong in the middle of the field and Cahir were denied 2 certain goals by Roisin Trehy and Eidin Murphy stopping the ball on the line. The pressure was relieved when Michelle Meagher sent a great ball to Katie O’Regan who finished in style and 5 mins later Katie O’Regan headed home a Shauna Hayes corner. But with 10 mins to go Jennifer Grant had 2 goals for Cahir and the game was wide open again until Shauna Hayes sent Katie O’Regan through again to seal the game. The final score 5-3 to Killenaule.

Team: Sharon Hanley, Eidin Murphy, Aoife O’Connor, Roisin Trehy, Aimee Maloney, Michelle Meagher, Erin Slattery, Ellen Walsh, Shauna Hayes, Katie O’Regan and Edel O’Dwyer. Subs used: Cait Murphy, Roisin O’Regan and Aisling O’Dwyer. Other subs: Nell Trehy, Fiona O’Connor and Hannah Stapleton.

The junior team will play the county D league Semi-Final next Friday eve at Thurles Gaels on the mill road, Thurles. We wish them the best of luck.

Special guest was Marion Fitzgerald well known Donegal singer who got the members singing and dancing to her very popular selection of music. Thanks to Tony Geoghegan and Joe Carroll who also entertained the members and the afternoon ended with the usual refreshments and bingo.
