GALTEE ROVERS ST PECAUN’S
Well done once more to Andrew, Conor and all the Tipp footballers who accounted for Antrim after a Titanic struggle last Saturday in Semple Stadium. The reward for a place in the final round of qualifiers is a clash with Down this weekend. Best of luck to everybody involved and hopefully we will get a similar result to the Division three final between the same two sides.
Our under 16 hurlers made it two from two with a convincing victory over Eire Og last week and now have two serious games on the way against Cappa and Kickhams. On Friday night our under 12 A hurlers were defeated by Cashel in an entertaining game of hurling while our under 12 B team defeated Sean Treacy’s by the odd score in five. On Sunday night our under 14 hurlers played the League final against Cappawhite and came out on top on a scoreline of 1-7 to 1-5. Full report next week.
With players thin on the ground due to holidays it is quite a struggle to field a minor team at the moment but we continue to put in good performances and hopefully our luck will turn soon.
A note for the diary, our annual Golf Classic will be held on August 16 and 17, in Ballykisteen Hotel and Golf Resort. This is a necessary and worthwhile findraiser and we need as much support as possible on the day. Teams cost €200 while Tee Boxes may be sponsored for €50.
For information on sponsorship, teams, tee boxes etc. Contact Willie on 086 8197506 or Brian on 087 6695016 or any Committee member.
LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB
U12 D County Title for the Galtees:
On Friday evening last, in the sunshine in Bansha, a mighty football battle took place for the U12 D county final between Galtee Rovers and Clonmel Commercials, and what a match it proved to be. It was a fine display from both sides played in front of the many supporters who enjoyed the encounter.
The match commenced very evenly until the 5 minute when Shannon Sweeney scored a fine goal. Sarah McCarthy followed with a point and the Commercials then commenced their challenge, scoring one goal and one point in quick succession. Leah O’Meara the Galtee’s Captain then notched up a point and a goal with some fine displays of accuracy. The Clonmel girls were not giving in easily scoring another 1-1 before half time but our back line of, Aine White, Sarah O’Neill and Megan Heffernan held off many strong challenges.
At half time it was all to play for with both sides even at 2-2 to 2-2.
However our young women opened up the play in the second half with Ciara Halpin hitting the back of the net with a fine goal in the second minute closely followed by another goal by Leah O’Meara. Once again the Commercials showed spirit and scored another 1-1. Again we were evens. Zoe Morrissey in the backs ably aided by Kate Phelan and Nicola Tobin pushed some fine ball onto our forwards and Ellie Peters scored two points which were a joy to see. Some fine skills were on show by forwards Chloe Pollard, Saoirse Fanning and Niamh Roche. Another point was popped over by Ciara Halpin. But all credit must go to our goalie Clodagh Bourke who had 2 saves in quick succession close to the end of the game. The Commercials heaped on the pressure in the last five minutes but the girls stayed strong.
The final score being Galtee Rovers 4-5 Clonmel Commercials 3 – 4
All credit must go to our fine panal and their trainer Trisha Healy. Trisha has worked tirdlessly throughout the years with the Galtee Girls and her commitment must be applauded.
Our Captain Leah O’Meara received the shield from the County Chairman Tommy Campbell and what a day it was for her a fine display of football, a county title and all on her birthday. Celebrations took place in the McGrath Centre following the match with the team and supporters.

A huge thank you to players, parents and supporters who helped out in the Bag Pack last weekend. Fundraising is a major issue for all sports organizations and when called on our team of volunteers put their back to the wheel and did us proud. Words of praise also for Dunnes Stores Tipperary Town for their support.
Our Sponsored Ball a Thon (fun ball games) was held earlier this month. Thanks to all who helped out on the day and of course to the players who took part.
