Munster Junior League Division 3 - Clonmel 8 Dungarvan 0
Clonmel’s first team dominated from the whistle and wasted no time in clocking up the goals in their opening game of the season against Dungarvan under the watchful eye of coach Fergus O’Brien.
New player Kate O’Sullivan sent an inch-perfect pass to Barbara Ryan, who slotted home an unbelievable set-piece strike to give them the lead. Mairead Morrissey showed no match nerves, scoring on her debut for the club. Niamh Connolly made an incredible strike look easy and was unlucky not to score a second, while Jessica Ryan made some excellent runs up the left wing.
Clonmel gave a passing master class, Eileen O’Donnell linking with captain Joan O’Donnell and Grainne O’Malley to create a solid defence, resulting in a quiet day for goalie Jennifer O’Brien. Play was held up in the first half when Marie Kelly suffered a horrific injury, fracturing her kneecap. Best of luck to Marie in her recovery.
The strong second half display continued, with Dawn Grace finding the net with a powerful shot from a short corner to score her first of the season. Joan O’Donnell stepped up in another set-piece strike to score a cracker. The always on-form Barbara Ryan found the net yet again with a rocket from the edge of the D. Monica Ryan scored the seventh and eighth goals, putting both strikes just beyond the reach of the ‘keeper.
The team’s next match is on this Saturday, October 6th, in Tipperary Town against Church Of Ireland at 12.30pm.
Munster Junior League Division 5 - Clonmel 2 Cork Wanderers 0
Clonmel’s second team began their season with a hard-fought win over Mallow rivals Cork Wanderers last Saturday. Mallow proved tough opposition from the whistle, attacking the Clonmel goal of Rachel Lonergan from both sides. The game changed for Clonmel when the defensive performance of Laura Ryan, Andrea O’Dea, Gillian Lynch, Pamela Murray and Anna Middleton began to build momentum.
Excellent attacking play in midfield by Grainne McRedmond, Ger Boland, captain Monica Ryan and Sinead Heffernan allowed the forwards Pamela Ryan, Rachael Ryan, Marie Mulcahy and Sinead Corry to attack the Mallow goal.
Marie Mulcahy found the net in the first half with an unstoppable strike. A short corner hit by Monica Ryan found Marie again and she wasted no time slotting home her second goal with a blast into the top left corner. Ger Boland was unlucky not so score with a darting run down the right wing. All in all it was a very successful day for the club, with two wins to kick off the season.
The Division 5 team’s next match is on this Saturday, October 6th in Tipperary Town against Blackrock at 2.30pm.

Fundraising for the new hockey pitch is on-going. The club hosted a fantastic night last Saturday with local musician Just Johnny in O’ Keeffes. We extend a big thank you to all those who came along to support the gig, bought raffle tickets and especially those who sponsored the spot prizes. The night could not have gone ahead without the efforts of Laura Ryan and co, Jonathan O’Brien and Fergal of O’Keeffe’s.
Congratulations to Ann Marie and Brian on the birth of baby Hannah.
