Lucky Michael won his fantastic prize in the Valentine’s Diamond Promotion in Saturday’s Lotto draw, 16 February, when he matched five numbers and the bonus number to win diamonds worth €100,000, as well as the regular prize of €25,000.

Michael was accompanied to National Lottery offices by his partner Inese and his son MJ. He delightedly recalled how he discovered the news at the weekend:

“I met a friend in Tipperary on Saturday evening and remembered that I had to do the Lotto, so I bought a €12 Quick Pick with Plus in the petrol station. Then on Sunday morning, after church I went to check my ticket in the shop in Fethard. I wasn’t sure it was really true, so my daughter, who lives next door, came over to check the numbers too. And then my son, MJ went on the website. Finally, it began to sink in!”

Michael bought his ticket in the Statoil Service Station on the Limerick Road in Tipperary town.

“I’m thrilled”, he continued. “This will make things that bit easier. I plan to pay off the bills and do some work on the house. We’ll go on a nice holiday with what is left over. Inese is from Latvia, and we have visited there together in the past.”

Michael has five children (two sons and three daughters) and six grandchildren. He thanked the neighbours and friends in his local community who have sent him good wishes.

“I’d like to thank everyone at home who has been so good to me and my family over the years, particularly my neighbour Ellis. I lost my wife ten years ago and appreciate the support from the good people around us. It is important to help people – it will always come back to you.”

“We look forward to celebrating with everyone!” he finished.
