Sixteen year old Niamh Costelloe from Bansha, who suffers from a very painful illness, Juvenile Arthritis, had a dream to be the Rose of Tralee.

So when the Share a Dream Team brought Niamh and her family to Tralee for a break little did they realise it was to have her fondest dream come true.

After arriving to the beautiful Fels Point Hotel, and checking in, Niamh and her family were greeted by the Mayor of Tralee Pat Fitzpatrick.

Then it was off to the Spa with all the ladies were they were all treated to getting their make-up done while enjoying some delicious Mock-tails and goodies.

Next a Garda escort arrived to whisk them off to Tralee Garda Station for a full tour of the surveillance and operations centre before escorting them to Kelly’s Hairdressers were they got their hair done.

Time for the parade, where Niamh got the shock of her life when she was greeted by Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh, who asked her new friend to join her on the main float beside her.

Then Niamh was really overcome when Maria offered to switch sashes with her and also gave her the very special Rose of Tralee crown just for a very “special moment in time”.

Niamh also met all the other Rose contestants who welcomed the new special Rose.

Later Niamh also visited a number of shops where she received numerous gifts and later that evening went to a special meet and greet with Boyband “Hometown” and later attended their concert with her family.

“I can’t thank Maria Walsh, the Rose of Tralee committee and the Dream Team enough for giving such a wonderful memory to a great family and making one very brave and truly special young lady very very happy indeed,” said Shay Kinsella, Founder of Share a Dream.

Maria has done so much to promote all that is beautiful about the Rose of Tralee Festival and in Irish society. She has given so much hope to hundreds of special children like Niamh all over the country that dreams can and do come true. So never give up hope.

According to Mum - “It is unbelievable and this will get Niamh and all of us through some tough times ahead. We can’t wait to see Maria and all this year’s beautiful contestants on TV because now the Rose of Tralee will always be part of a wonderful dream come true”, she said before this week’s live shows.
