Clonmel’s Loreto students excel in athletics and golf

As the athletics team moved from cross country to track and field they continued on their winning ways. The team competed in the East Munsters in W.I.T. at the beginning of May and the girls once again had great success. Phoebe Murphy won gold in 100m and 200m and Maedbh Moynihan won gold in 1500m and silver in 800m. Orlaith Moynihan won gold in s/c and silver in 3000m. Megan O’Brien won gold in 300m and Aoife Laste won silver in 1500m. Laura Tobin won silver in s/c and Clare Horgan won bronze in 1500m.

The Munster track and field competition was held at the end of May in C.I.T. and was another very successful day for the athletes. Orlaith Moynihan won the 3000m while Phoebe Murphy claimed gold in both the 200m and 100m. Laura Tobin came third in the steeple chase, Aoife Laste was 4th and Clare Horgan was 5th in the 1500m and Maedbh Moynihan finished 5th in the 800m and 1500m.

In golf Gemma McCarthy, Laura Winston and Abbey Kiely played in the Munster schools championships. Laura Winston won the overall nett prize and Gemma McCarthy and Abbey Kiely won the junior section as a team. They then went on the compete in the Irish Schools finals in Miltown. The weather was extremely poor on the day of the final but this did not deter the girls and they came out overall winners. Well done on this great achievement.
