Tipperary Minor stars very welcome at King Cormacs Cul Camp

Kellogg’s Cúl Camp A Great Success!

Kellogg’s Cúl Camp A Great Success!

From Monday to Friday last week Leahy Park was a hub of GAA activity in Cashel town with the welcome and annual running of the Kellogg’s Cúl Camp.

Seventy six eager boys and girls arrived early on Bank Holiday Monday already dressed in their cúl camp gear ready to start what was sure to be a week of fun and games.

On Tuesday there was the first great excitement of the week when dual Tipperary Minor stars Bill Maher and Dylan Fitzell visited the camp. They spent time with each group of boys and girls to talk about the great experience they have had of playing for their county. Both young men imparted advice and encouraged the younger players to listen to their coaches and perfect the skills of the game if they want to follow in the footsteps of the two Cashel Minor stars.

Wednesday brought even more excitement as Tipperary Senior Wing back Pádraic Maher arrived with the silverware won by Tipperary already this season - the Munster Senior Hurling Cup, Munster Minor Hurling Cup and the Munster Intermediate Cup.

Padraic brought the cups to each of the groups at the Cul Camp in turn and each child had the opportunity to raise the Munster Senior Cup and imagine being a match winner, much to their delight and chants of up Tipp - the highlight of the week for many of the budding GAA players.

Thursday brought a day full of sunshine and the normal training resumed at the Cul Camp and it seemed summer had finally arrived!

On the final day of this summer’s Cul Camp the children decided that as it was so warm that there was no better way to cool down then to have a water fight! The camp became a playground for all including TJ and Timmy! It is fair to say that all both children and adults had a most enjoyable afternoon and as the time came to finally go home Cashel King Cormacs delivered ice-cream that was truly welcome!

As always there are people to thank for the running of the camp, without whom the week would not have been possible.

Firstly thanks to the Cúl Camp coaches who were fantastic all week and who gelled so well with all the children. Thanks to our teens - Laura, Celine, Colin, Jonathan and Ellen who helped out all week, Joan and Tina for lunch supervision, applying suncream and for taking the water fight in such good spirit.

A special thanks goes to Eileen Moloney who worked so hard all week with tea breaks and making sure all areas used were left in perfect condition afterwards.

Everyone is looking forward to next year’s summer Cul Camp already!
