Vintage Club Presentation

At last September’s Tractor Run, Skeheenarinky Vintage Club collected €4,455 for the Irish Heart and Lung Transplant Association. On Saturday, February 18, John and Mary O’Gorman of Skeheenarinky, chairman and secretary of the club - and grateful parents of a transplant recipient - attended the 20th Annual Mass of Thanksgiving and Remembrance in Dublin and presented the generous cheque on behalf of the Vintage Club. “The Mass is dedicated with respect and humility to all organ donors and their families who by their goodness and compassion give others the gift of life.” Organ recipients from around the country participate in the Mass and offer lighted candles at the altar for their donors. The members of the Vintage Club and all who took part in the Vintage Run are to be complemented on their generosity.

Seamus Kelleher

A correspondent from County Cork studying for a Masters Degree in Modern Irish at U.C.C. contacted Skeheenarinky recently. She is focusing on the poetry of Seamus Kelleher who was headmaster at Skeheenarinky School from 1956 to 1981 and who retired to live in Ballyporeen. The custodian of the School Anniversary museum had some material from the Kelleher family and this will be made available to the student in question.

Hard Days and Happy Days

A limited number of copies of Hard Days and Happy Days – the History of Skeheenarinky National School are still available from members of the Parents’ Association. The books are reducing in number slowly but surely and this past month saw one book being sold in Ireland and one being sent to New Zealand. All monies go to the Parents’ Association. Contact Karol at 052 7467935. When they’re gone, they’re gone!
