Great weather, fantastic community spirit and streamlined organisation were all the ingredients for a hugely successful Healthy Heart Walk in Clonmel last Wednesday night. Over 800 people, along with many canine friends, participated in the walk, which was in aid of the Cancer CARE Centre, Clonmel.
Many loyal walkers have marked this event in their social calendars as it has a proven track record for being a great sociable night and a chance to meet up with friends, enjoy the beautiful scenery around Marlfield Lake while also contributing to a worthy cause.
This year there was an abundance of colour as many clubs turned out in their club colours all eager to win generous prizes donated by Abbott, Clonmel. The Scouts made a huge effort and were justly rewarded with 1st prize (€500), while the Swimming Club, along with banners, swim hats and determination received €300 for its efforts.
The Healthy Heart Walk owes its continued success to the Athletics Club, the Gardai, the Red Cross and the Civil Defence, as year after year their volunteers generously give up their time to ensure that the walk is a safe and enjoyable activity. Special mention must also be given to the Clonmel Park Hotel for allowing the walk to commence and finish on its premises.
Anyone who still has sponsorship is asked to submit it as soon as possible to a committee member so that a cheque can be presented to the CARE Centre. Winners of the Treasure Hunt will also be shortly announced.
