They made their mammies, daddies and the medical staff of South Tipperary General Hospital wait until well into the new year, but two little bundles of joy arrived to bring happiness to two South Tipperary families in the first days of 2012.
The first baby of the year was born on Sunday afternoon, January 1, at 4.35pm. Little Aoibhe Mullan weighed in at 2.5kg, or 5 pounds 15 ounces.
Aoibhe is the first daughter of Mullinahone couple Deirdre and Ciaran Mullan. She is also a very welcome grand-daughter to well-known Mullinahone residents Ricky and Nora Sheehan.
The new arrival was joined in the maternity unit the next day by another little girl, Eabha Niamh Maher.
Eabha was born at 3.28pm on Monday, January 2, and weighed in at 3.7kg, or just under eight pounds. Her delighted parents are Mairead and Noel, from Thurles.
