A brave bunch of Carrick-on-Suir people have sacrificed their crowning glory to be shaved or dyed for a worthy cause.

Carrick-on-Suir did its bit for the the nationwide Today FM “Shave or Dye” fundraising campaign for the Irish Cancer Society at O’Ceallachain’s Bar on Main Street

About six men and women gathered at the bar to have their heads ceremonially shaved by hairdressers Anne-Marie Power and Anne-Marie Hall.

And a further 13, who had their locks dyed the night before at the home of one of the fundraiser’s organisers, were also there on the night to show off their radical new look.

“We had a great turnout of people to watch the shaving and we raised about E700 alone on the night. We still have to get some sponsorship cards money back but we estimate we will raise between E3000 and E4000 overall,” said one of the organisers Sally-Anne Murphy, who shaved her head for the cause.
