The annual Healthy Heart Walk in Clonmel will take place on Wednesday, 29th May at 7pm. As with other years the aim of this well-supported event is to raise funds for local charities, as well as raising awareness amongst the local community of the importance of exercise in contributing towards good cardiac health. As this event is so well marshalled it extends an invitation this year to all runners to come along and run the 5km route, or if you are feeling energetic to do it twice.
This year’s walk/run is in aid of South Tipperary Hospice, Clonmel – a very worthy organisation badly in need of funds to continue employing Palliative Care Sisters to provide help and expertise to patients with cancer and their families at home, in hospitals and in nursing homes.
This is the sixth year of the Healthy Heart Walk and over €60,000 has been raised so far for local charities. This success is due to the generosity of the local community, the ongoing support from Abbott Vascular, the fact that 100% of the money collected is given directly to the charity and also because a great sociable night is guaranteed. It is a time when the community comes out in force to support a very worthy local cause.
The route is a 5km circuit around Marlfield Lake commencing and finishing at the Clonmel Park Hotel. Due to popular demand the treasure hunt will also be organised again this year for the younger participants with great prizes to be won, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Abbott Vascular.
Walking and running are excellent and easy activities and a great form of exercise for all age groups – so why not come along, make a donation at one of the money collection points and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Marlfield Lake.
The Red Cross will also supply a free blood pressure and blood sugar level check before or after the walk to any person that wishes to avail of the free test.
It’s hoped that you will put Wednesday, 29th May into your diary and support South Tipperary Hospice - a movement that brings peace, serenity and dignity at a very sensitive time in people’s lives.
