On Saturday, June 23, our Under 10’s took part in Division 1 of the South Board Football Blitz in Monroe under cold and blustery weather conditions. We had 21 players on the day. Our first game against Killenaule started promptly with an opening goal from Jack Buckley and subsequently a great save by Killenaule following a charge by Christopher McDonagh. Half time came with Cahir up by that one goal. Second half opened with a goal by Kian Lonergan, a save by John Cahill and good defence by Odhran O’Suilleabhan but Killenaule replied with 2 goals and so we ended our first challenge a draw.
Next we met with Carrick Swan and opened scoring with two points from Christopher McDonagh and Daniel Coveney but the Swan returned with two goals. Jack Buckley put his name on the score card with a point from a free. Conor Kirwan was unlucky not to save a further goal. Carrick Swan broke through our defence with a goal just before half time. After a brief rest Carrick Swan continued their blistering attack with 3 goals and a point for a good win with Francie Delaney trying hard to keep the scores down.
Our third game was against Moyle Rovers who did their home ground proud in the first half. Our players came back with great gusto in the 2nd half and did well with goals from Liam O’Neill and Callum McGrath and two further attempts from Jack Buckley but unfortunately things just did not go his way. Thomas Molan repelled many attacks during the 2nd half but Moyle Rovers had done enough to win this battle.
The fourth meeting was against Clonmel Commercials which proved to be a tight match with a draw of 2 points at the end of the first half. Our Scorers were Liam O’Neill and Daniel Coveney with Liam Crowe and Conor Donaghy working well in defence. For the second half the weather took a turn for the worst with blustery showers. Commercials recovered well with a number of great scores but it was not to be Cahir’s day.
Our final match was not played as it was just simply too wet and Commercials were declared the overall winners.
Many thanks to all our players who did so well on the day and also to our supporters. Well done to all involved in organising and running the day so well and efficiently.
We are off again to another Blitz this coming Saturday in Clerihan for a hurling blitz.
