A group of Carrick-on-Suir CBS students received a crash course in EU politics from local MEP Phil Prendergast when she visited their school.
The Labour MEP for Ireland South took time out from her busy schedule to talk to the school’s 3rd year CPSE class about the responsibilities and duties of an Irish MEP.
She spent almost an hour with the class explaining her work and her role in scrutinising EU decisions, directives and regulations and the importance of Ireland’s representation in the European Parliament.
Her visit linked perfectly with the students research into their chosen course project on the concept of ‘Interdependence’.
Afterwards Ms Prendergast praised the students for their attentiveness throughout her talk the many ‘bright and insightful’ questions they asked on how the European Parliament works .
She gave each student with an information pack with relevant links listed for further research on their course work.
Ms Prendergast said she loved school visits and told the students she would be happy to assist them with any further information should they need it.
