Cahir will be in full bloom for summer

Cahir will be blooming for the arrival of the Cannonball Run and the Tidy Towns judges, this summer.

At the group’s AGM, last week, the triumphs of the past year and big plans for this year were highlighted.

Tidy Towns chairman, Any Moloney, thanked all who helped the group, including the many people who gave materials and machinery free of charge, and the council staff who worked with the group. “We have accomplished much over the past few years with completed works on the Memorial garden, Railway Bed, High Footpath painting and the great job last year on the Library. The bed on Barrack Street and the Mitchelstown road along with the Tipp Road will be in full bloom for the coming season. We would also hope that the beds we are doing on the entrance to the town as well as the bed at Avondale court will be a help in trying to increase points.”

“This is an important year with the Cannonball Run coming to Cahir and it is very important that the town is blooming and well presented for the TV cameras. We would hope to do a deal again this year with local suppliers so that people can get a good bargain and paint their premises. With all that said, we will have an opening of the Abbey in the summer and the Ice House Renovations in July. So, with a good year all round and many plans ahead we will certainly be busy.”

All officers of Tidy Towns resign annually and the team elected for 2014 are - President Carmel Dolan, Vice President Mimi Crombach, Chairman Andy Moloney, Vice-Chairpersons Seamus Conway and Breda Gallagher, Secretary Janette Wycherley, Treasurer CDA Financial Controller (presently Nellie Williams), PRO Carmel Casey. The Tidy Towns table quiz will take place next Friday, March 7, in the Shamrock Lounge at 8.30pm. The Tidy Towns Group express their sympathies on the sad passing of John Costigan.
