Carrick Swan Club appeals to emigrant players to keep in touch

Carrick Swan’s U-16 team began their year with an Xbox/Playstation competition at the clubhouse last week.

Twenty seven players took part and more than 60 spectators were present as the youngsters went to battle to be crowned the best FIFA 13 player in the team.

It was fun, ultra-competitive at times and great for team moral with all players and spectators enjoying the night.

The Club also set up a television room showing Carrick Swan matches from years gone by.

Approximately 90 games took place on the night. Pictures and videos are now available on the Club website and Facebook page.

Congratulations to Eric O’ Halloran, who led Tottenham Hotspur to victory and their first silverware since their League Cup win in 2008.

Swanminor players will compete in their Xbox/Playstation tournament this Saturday with games kicking off at 6.45pm

The Club thanks Mary and Yvonne for helping out with the food, U-16 team sponsor Aaron’s Takeaway for delivering the food, New Street Barber for supplying prizes for the competition and also thanks to Butler Electrical for supplying televisions.

The Swan Club’s Aintree Grand National Sweep cards have been distributed to businesses and club members this week. Anyone interested in selling some cards should contact any committee member. Each line costs only €1. All members and friends of Carrick Swan Club are encouraged to support the fundraiser.

Swan U-16 player Cian Foley is recovering following a stay in hospital.

The Club wishes Cian a speedy recovery and looks forward to seeing him in the black and white jersey again this year.

Cian is a pacy half back/midfielder with a keen eye for a good pass, who fitted seamlessly into the Swan U-16 team last year after playing with the U-14s the year previous.

Former Carrick Swan player Stephen Kearns helped the Fullen Gaels Club of Manchester book their place in Croke Park last Sunday when they beat the Ulster Champions in the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Semi-Final.

Best of Luck to Stephen and all the Fullen Gaels panel in the final.

There are Swan exiles scattered throughout the globe from Saskatchewan to Manchester and from Perth to Heidleberg. The Club invites those emigrants to let us know any information you can about their exploits abroad, especially their GAA exploits. If you’re a Carrick Swan exile living abroad get in touch because the Club would love to hear from you.

Club Registrar Willie Hahessy will be at the Carrick Swan clubhouse this Friday at 7pm to collect registrations. Registration can also be paid to any committee member. The Club and team managements would appreciate if all players would pay their subscriptions prior to the March 31 deadline. Only those players who have paid membership subscriptions are insured and can play games.

Membership fees are: non-playing adult €20, adult player €40, non-playing minor €10, minor player €20, juvenile €10.

Carrick Swan Club launched its monthly club newsletter last Monday. The January edition is available now to download from the Club website.

Numbers drawn in last week’s Juvenile Lotto were 13, 15, 25, 27.

The €4,500 jackpot prize wasn’t won and two players matched three numbers to win €100 each.

Carrick Swan GAA Club thanks all those who continue to play our lotto and remind those who might like to join that weekly entry is €2 and this can be paid to any committee member, or to any of our lotto promoters, who will call to collect each week. This week’s jackpot prize is €4,750. Your continued support helps the Club provide for all its juvenile players and is very much appreciated.

Carrick Swan GAA club extends its sympathy to the Cashin family, New Line Road and Ash Park Village on their recent family bereavement.
