Tommy served the Club with distinction all of his life; as a player, a mentor and one of the most loyal supporters the Club has ever had.

The standing that Tommy commanded in the Swan Club was best exemplified by the passion he displayed when he had the honour of addressing the senior hurlers before the local derby match last year while he was ill.

The words Tommy expressed that day touched all who were in the dressing room and the atmosphere was palpable as we knew in our hearts it would probably be the last time he would be able to do so. There was a lot of emotion as the players took to the field that day.

Training nights will not be the same without Tommy as he was a constant presence running the rule over who was on form or not. Tommy hurled at a time when success was scarce but that did not diminish his prowess as a hurler.

When his playing days were over, he became a mentor with the teams of the ‘70s and ‘80s. He had a unique style as a mentor, the sleeves were always rolled up and when he spoke he spoke from the heart.

Whenever you met Tommy the chat would always be about the Swan and he was lucky to have a wife in Bessie, who was equally passionate about the Club. He was a loyal Swan man to the last and his place in the Club’s history is secure.
