Local charity Becky’s Beat, which provides life-saving defibrillators to communities, sports clubs and schools, has been chosen as the beneficiary of an upcoming Comeragh College charity run.

The 5km fun run is part of the Dissolving Boundaries citizenship project involving second year students from Comeragh College and Our Lady’s Grammar School in Newry.

A Dragon’s Den style competition was held in Comeragh College to select the cause to benefit from the run. Students of 2Yeats class gave presentations on different local charities to a panel of judges. Becky’s Beat, which raises awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in children and teenagers and the importance of defibrillators, was the worthy winner.

The student’s big fund-raising run takes place on Dissolving Boundaries Day on May 15.

This is the fourth year Comeragh College has partnered with the Newry school under the Dissolving Boundaries Project that brings schools from North and South together to collaborate on common areas of the curriculum through the use of Information Technology Students work together on forums, podcasts, blogs, website design and video conferences.
