Congratulations to the Ballylooby Castlegrace Junior hurlers on a gritty performance in the Junior Hurling A Championship south final in Goatenbridge on Sunday, which ended in a draw. The game was a real battle with our near neighbours Skeheenarinky and finished with BallyloobyCastlegrace on 1 goal and 12 points and Skeheenarinky on 15 points.
Buoyed up by the tremendous crowd of supporters on the sideline, the team proved to be a great mix of youth and experience. On form on the day were David Fox (2 points) and Danny Morgan (1 point) in midfield, while Johnny Cooney’s impact was immediately felt when he came on the field in the second half.
Brian Fitzgerald made his mark with two points while John Whelan slotted away five points. Eamon Ryan, who played a big role in getting the team to the final, scored one point and Brian Beary brought the crowd to their feet with his goal. The Ballylooby Castlegrace defence was tight throughout the game, keeping Skeheenarinky’s scores from play to a minimum.
Congratulations also to Barry Cooney, who won an All-Ireland shield with the Tipperary U17 development squad during the past week.
With the replay set for this weekend, the team, led by manager Derek Coffey and selector Richie Morrissey, is firing on all cylinders and hoping for the same level of support on the sideline again
Well done to the Brian Borus Senior team who defeated Cahir last Friday evening in the Senior County semi-final. It was a physical, competitive game from start to finish. Brian Borus had the better of the Cahir girls in the first half and were leading by 6pts to 3 at half time. The second half started with three great scores for Borus but Cahir responded with a goal. The Cahir girls tried their best to level the scores but Brian Borus never relinquished their lead and won on a score line of 0-9 to 1-4. Best of luck in the County final.
