A family cycle and chalk art contest in Carrick-on-Suir’s Town Park are being organised for a family fun weekend in the town later this month.
The weekend of events on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22 is being hosted by Carrick-on-Suir Lions Club as a follow on to its successful awareness open week last autumn, which also featured the cycle and chalk art contest.
“The Club promises a fun filled weekend and is looking forward to a large attendance at the various events,” said John Butler, Vice-President of Carrick Lions Club.
The Art in the Park competition will take place in Town Park on the Saturday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm. The contest will involve drawing pictures on the park’s pavement with chalk and will be open to children aged between 4 and 14.
Mr Butler said they will award prizes for the age categories under 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14.
“The Club will provide the chalk and entry is free so children are urged to come along enjoy and support this fun afternoon,” he said.
It will be followed that evening with a Mass for past and present members of Carrick-on-Suir Lions Club at St Nicholas Church at 7.30pm. The Suir Valley Choir will perform at the ceremony.
Local families are being encouraged to get on their bikes and join in the Lions Club’s Family Cycle the following day.
The cycle will leave from the Library Car Park at 2.30pm, according to Mr Butler.
Cyclists will peddle down the Cregg Road to Faugheen where refreshments and ice cream will be available. The return journey will be via Ballyrichard Road to the Library Car Park.
“The wearing of helmets is compulsory and children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. As with the Art in the Park, entry to the Family Cycle is free,” Mr Butler explained.
