The late Johnnie Keogh, Rathkeevan, Clonmel, who died in February.

Johnnie Keogh, Rathkeevan, Clonmel passed away peacefully last month at the home of his sister, Mai Denmead.

Born Down Syndrome in April 1949, he was the eldest of four children born to Mary and Paddy Keogh, Grantstown, Tipperary.

Johnnie moved to Clonmel when his sister Mai married Antoine Denmead in 1976.

Johnnie walked until he was 12 years old, when he contracted a rare illness called dystonia, which affected his muscles. However despite the illness he still managed to travel outside of Ireland many times with Mai, Antoine and their daughters Louise and Paula, and he enjoyed many happy years.

Johnnie was loved by everyone who knew him. You were always greeted with a big hug and a great smile when you met Johnnie.

His family are grateful to everyone who attended his funeral. They are also grateful to his wonderful friend Fr. O’Bric for all his visits, and all the priests who celebrated and attended his funeral Mass.

They also wish to thank Dr. Colman Walsh, his friend and doctor for 35 years, and all those friends who were so good to him.

Life for his family and friends will never be the same again but they are consoled by the fact that they have a saint in heaven watching over them.

“May your gentle soul rest in peace, Johnnie, and play your music as you always did in your new home in heaven with mam and dad. You fought the good fight and ran the race to the finish. Bye kid”.
