A local group has made a fantastic effort and raised record funds to help an injured member of the community.

Premier Harriers, a group which is now well known for its fundraising drive, has raised record funds for the Shaun Fogarty Appeal.

Last Friday night a large crowd attended a cheque presentation in the Galtee Inn. The amazing amount of €20,000 was presented by Premier Harriers Chairman, Gerry O’Donnell and other members of the Harriers, to Gretta and Kevin Fogarty towards the Shaun Fogarty Appeal.

The proceeds were raised by Premier Harriers Hunt Club through a sponsored ride known as ‘The Cahir Challenge’ and an auction which took place afterwards in The Galtee Inn, Cahir, on January 3 last.

Renowned Jockey, Davy Russell led the Challenge on that day and went on to win the Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival this year under new trainer, Jim Culloty. Both were in attendance along with the very popular and much photographed Gold Cup last Friday night.

The Cahir Challenge started in Cahir and went on to Loughloher, cutting across to Knockagh then Moorstown, Curranstown and stopped for a break and refreshments at Moloney’s in Poulmucka. They then went on to Keylong, Knocknaboha, Mortlestown and Kedra before finishing up in the Mart in Cahir.

Club Chairman, Gerry O’Donnell, said that there were many people who helped with the Challenge and needed to be thanked, among them were Cahir GAA Club for collecting funds and cleaning up, Micheal Ryan for road crossings, Micheal Philips, all the good farmers whose lands were crossed, John Malone and staff, Davy Russell and Jim Culloty and of course all members too. Gerry said that over the last eight years the Club has raised over €164,900 for local charities. Well done to all who took part and supported the Challenge.
