All-Ireland Minor stars bring cup to Rockwell

After Tipperary’s glorious victory over Dublin in this year’s All-Ireland Minor Football Final, four current students and one former student of Rockwell College brought the Tom Markham Cup to the school.
Praising the pupils’ endeavours, Rockwell principal Pat O’Sullivan said that while everybody had been hoping that the Liam McCarthy Cup would be visiting the school this year he said nobody could have dreamed that Tipperary would bridge a 77 Year gap to win an All-Ireland Minor football title.
He said that he was particularly delighted that four current pupils in the school and one past pupil all played in the final. Mr. O’Sullivan also praised the role of parents, whom he claimed made huge sacrifices to attend matches and take their sons training.
Tipp Minor football manager David Power thanked Mr. O’Sullivan for inviting him to the school and claimed that Rockwell has always had a strong association with Tipperary football. Last year three former pupils from the school played in Tipperary’s Munster U-21 success and two pupils from the school, Liam Casey (TY) and James Feehan (TY) were on the Tipperary U-16 football side this year, while Sean McCarthy (7th year) played for Kerry against Tipperary in this year’s Minor Football championship.
