Carrick Davins retain senior status

Carrick Davins senior hurlers won their Seamus O’Riain Cup match against Knockavilla Kickhams in Kilsheelan last Friday.

The team were under pressure to secure their first win of the season and prepared even harder than before to ensure their senior status for next year.

The Carrick side started the game well and went from strength to strength once they took the lead and were four points ahead at half time.

At one stage in the second half, the Davin team were ten points ahead but Knockavilla didn’t give up and pegged the lead back to a single score.

The last few minutes of the game were very tense but the Davins hung on to win by 3pts. Final score: Davins 1-17 to Knockavilla’s 1-14.

This game was was a test of character for the Davin team, which has lost five players from its team last year due to emigration.

On top of this, the team’s experienced half back was suspended so new players had to step up to the plate.

And they did. Young Stephen Moroney added 1-2 to the score board, Jim Walshe gave a powerful display in the backs as did Michael Coady in attack.

The back room team also had a big influence on the preparation for this game. Kevin O Sullivan never gave up hope on the players and the selectors gave up so much of their time.

The Davin minors hurlers and footballers, meanwhile, continue to train while they await their next games. They will be notified of training times by text.

The U-14s defeated Clonmel Óg in Ned Hall park last week. The score was 4-12 to 3-6. And the U-12s rounded off a great week with a fine win against Ballingarry.

Training for U-12s and U-10s continues every Wednesday form 7pm to 8pm. U-6s and U-8s will train every Tuesday from 7pm to 8pm.

Training for girls will continue every Monday from 6pm to 7pm. New players are always welcome.

There wasn’t a winner of the Davin Club lotto jackpot last week. Numbers drawn were 5,1, 13, 20. Six match three winners received €E35 each.

The Club extends sympathy to the O’Brien and Roche families of St John’s on the recent death of Ann.
