Carrick Davins secure their senior status

Carrick Davins Ger Robinson played a huge part in his side's 1-18 to 1-15 success over Knockavilla /Donaskeigh in the Seamus O Riain Cup at Kilsheelan on Friday evening.

On Friday evening at Kilsheelan Sportsfield, Carrick Davins defeated Knockavilla/Donaskeigh Kickhams by 1-18 to 1-15 in Round 1 of the Seamus O Riain Cup.

The well deserved win sees the Davins progress in the competition but more importantly secures their continuation as a senior status hurling club.

Playing against the breeze in the first half the Davins led by four points at the break 1-8 to 0-7. Jason Butler was 100 per cent accurate with three frees, one 65 and a point from play. Stephen Moroney cracked home the goal with a superb finish in the 21st minute.

Kickhams rallied in the second half to have it all square with 17 minutes to go but the Davins found a second wind and were fully deserving of their win.

Outstanding for Davins were William O’Dwyer at centre-back, Gerard Robinson at centre-forward and Jason Butler who contributed nine points over the hour. The full-back line of Keith Condon, Stephen Cronin and Bill Walsh gave little change to the West Tipperary outfit.

For Kickhams, who must now regroup to contest a relegation group, Paul Breen, Brian Horgan, Damian McGrath and Johnny Ryan worked tirelessly but they will have to reduce their profligacy in front of goals if they are to avoid the dreaded drop later in the year. A second testing fixture in five days didn’t help their cause either having lost in the Dan Breen Cup to Kilruane MacDonaghs on the previous Sunday.
