Carrick teams need win in South Tipperary hurling
The major games in South Tipperary this weekend are two very important ties in the Senior Hurling championship. Carrick Swans will face the holders Mullinahone in Kilsheelan on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. whilst Carrick Davins and Ballingarry should attract a good attendance to Anner Park, Cloneen on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Both Carrick sides have got off to disappointing starts in the competition and will need to get back on the winning trail if they are to reach the last four.
Swans will face a particularly difficult task against an unbeaten C.J. Kickhams side. These teams met on three occasions last year and in the league stages Swan lost out by 1-16 to 2-11. They then clashed in the semi-final which ended in an exciting draw and the replay went to extra time with the Mullinahone side triumphing by 1-16 to 0-13. Swan will need to return to their best and with their strongest team of the year to date on duty they will have every chance of rising to the occasion in what promises to be a very interesting tussle.
Davins are also fighting to claim a place in the semi-finals and they will be all out to repeat their success of last year over their rivals. That game was played in Monroe where Ballingarry were defeated by three points. Another well contested tie is expected and Davins will have to show improvement if they are to confirm the form.
The fixture programme begins on this Thursday evening with a very interesting local derby between Commercials and Clonmel Og in the Garrabridge junior football (A) championship in Marlfield at 7 p.m. while in the same grade and at the same time Newcastle and St. Patricks will do battle in Ned Hall Park on Saturday.
Three games in the Martins Fruit & Veg Intermediate hurling championship look sure to create interest especially the clash of Ballybacon-Grange and Cahir in Clonmel on Sunday at 2 p.m. Ballybacon-Grange will be favourites to continue on their winning way following their success over holders St. Marys but Cahir are always capable of rising their game against their neighbours and a keen contest looks on the cards.
On the same date and time Fethard will oppose Grangemockler/Ballyneale in Monroe whilst earlier on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. Moyle Rovers tackle Fr. Sheehys in Cahir at 6 p.m.
Finally the opening round of the Mulcahy Construction Junior (B) football championship will get underway with four games on Wednesday of next week at 7 p.m.
