Clonoulty-Rossmore hit by Sarsfields goal blitz

County MHC 'A' semi-final

Thurles Sarsfields 5-12

Clonoulty Rossmore 2-8

Having emerged from the Mid decider over Loughmore by the skin of their teeth, Thurles Sarsfields had plenty to spare over Clonoulty Rossmore in the county semi final played in sweltering heat in Holycross on Saturday morning. Ten minutes in and the lues had 4 goals on the board and from there, the match, which had been re-fixed from a later throw in due to a bereavement in the Clonoulty-Rossmore camp, was effectively over as a contest.

Aidan McCormack struck twice early on while Dylan Bourke, Mark Lanigan and Padraic Crone added to the goal haul thereafter.

The opening half, which saw Sarsfields rack up a lead of 4-7 to Clonoulty's 0-4, gave way to a period of resignation among the Blues that the result was 'in the bag.' Clonoulty battled well, however, and fired 2-4 in the second half, outscoring Sars by a point. It was a classic case of too little too late and Sars sauntered over the winning line with an easy victory under the belt.

Sars' now await the outcome of Burgess or Nenagh ire g v St Marys next Saturday which will determine their final opponents.

While McCormack was star of the show for Sarsfields, they had outstanding performances from Pa Dunne, Mark Lanigan and David Corbett while James Ryan and Philip Purcell put in a huge effort for the win.
