Davins and Swan in famed Carrick-on-Suir hurling derby

The Sunday dinner will be on hold as all roads lead to Davin Park, Carrick-on-Suir for another stirring episode in the great rivalry between local clubs Swan and Davins in the South Tipperary Senior Hurling championship.
This latest clash on Sunday next is scheduled for 1 p.m. and whilst the protagonists may not be setting the world on fire so far this year, the championship prospects of both clubs are still alive and patrons should enjoy another gripping contest in Carrick’s unique atmosphere. Keith Delahunty will be the man in charge of this latest encounter and patrons are advised to be travel early as the usual big attendance is expected.
A year ago in the corresponding game both sides rose to the occasion to produce one of the best games seen in the division for some time. The final scoreline read Swan 1-15 Davins 2-12 and the draw proved a very equitable result.
The expectation of all followers is that a similar contest is in the offing and although both sides are understrength this year pride and honour are still very much at stake as well of course as places in the championship semi-finals.
Definitely an occasion not to be missed.
Football followers are also well catered for with two vital games in the Clonmel Oil senior championship. A play-off between Cahir and Clonmel Og is scheduled for Ardfinnan on Friday evening at 8 p.m. whilst on Saturday evening in Cahir at 7 p.m., Ardfinnan and Fethard will bring back memories of many great games of the past when they clash in the championship quarter-final. Extra time will be played in the event of a draw in either of these games.
The race for semi-final spots in a very interesting Martins Fruit & Veg intermediate hurling championship is really hotting up and two games on Saturday evening are vital for the participants. Moyle Rovers will oppose Fr. Sheehys in Goatewnbridge at 6 p.m. whilst an hour later in Kilsheelan the clash of champions St. Marys and Grangemockler/Ballyneale looks sure to be worth a visit.
On Sunday evening at 7 p.m. in Ardfinnan, Commercials and Ballylooby/Castlegrace will be in opposition in what should prove a very interesting Clonmel Credit Union Intermediate Football championship tie.
On this Wednesday evening a full round of fixtures in the Mulcahy Construction Junior Football (B) championship should get the week’s programme off to a lively start.
Four games are scheduled with an 8 p.m. starting time.
